It has been a couple of years since I have last attended the Chicago Air and Water Show and since it was going on this weekend at North Avenue Beach, it reminds me that attending is probably one of my favorite things about summer.
When I worked in Chicago, I was fortunate enough to have a window office on the 27th floor of the Two Prudential Plaza that faced North with a view over Lake Michigan. Beginning on the afternoon of the 3rd Thursday in August, was that all so familiar sound of a constant buzz in the air from the aircrafts conducting practice runs over the lake. Since sound travels faster than the airplane (most cases), you’ll hear the airplane approach you before you’ll see it. Although I faced away from the window, I was continually being turned around by the loud roar of the jet fighters streaking across the sky and between the skyscrapers. What a thrilling sight to see! In honor of this weekend’s Chicago’s Air and Water Show, here are few of my favorite photographs from past airshows that I have taken over the years. I hope you enjoy them as much I did taking them!
